National Poetry Month is Coming!
Join me for an in-person workshop to jump start your poetry practice.
TL;DR - On April 4, I’ll be offering a poetry workshop called “Developing a Daily Poetry Practice” at the Morse Institute Library in Natick, MA. The workshop runs from 7 to 8:30 PM. Register here.
Celebrating National Poetry Month
April may be the cruelest month, or at least T.S. Eliot would have as believe as much, but it is also National Poetry Month, which is one of my favorite times of the year.
Poetry was and remains my first literary love. Ever since I cracked open Shel Silverstein’s Where the Sidewalk Ends in second or third grade, I’ve been hooked. This may come as a surprise, since what I have mostly written about here is art and given the fact that my main publications are novels, but it’s true. I love poetry. I have always been in love with language, and what is poetry but the right words in the right order?
To kick off this year’s National Poetry Month, I’ll be running a one-and-a-half hour workshop called “Developing a Daily Poetry Practice” at the Morse Institute Library in Natick, MA. The workshop is broken into three segments:
Removing obstacles that get in the way of writing poetry / Free your voice!
Find inspiration (everywhere!)
Entering the poetic conversation
Throughout the workshop, participants will explore five exercises to get the creative juices flowing, and I’ll share lots of examples from my own poetry practice. I’m so excited! I hope you’ll join me. Register here.
Monadnock Pastoral Poetry Retreat
There’s also still time to register for the Monadnock Pastoral Poetry Retreat.
April 19-21, 2024
Join us for a weekend writing retreat in beautiful Southern New Hampshire. Participants meet in small workshop groups to develop their craft. There are workshops in poetry, fiction, and nonfiction, and there are readings throughout the weekend and time to relax and enjoy the lovely setting.
Studio News
Lots happening in my art world these days! As of this writing, I am on day 36 of the 100 Day Project. I haven’t been posting my work every day, but I have been doing the work! My goal for the 100 days is to start my daily art habit with play, which is, frankly, against my serious nature. I’m just one of those serious people. But I’m practicing and learning, and I might even be loosening up!
I’ve also uploaded a couple of new videos to YouTube in which I explore different supplies. Each video includes a discussion of the materials and tests to see how they work, and then I show a full-length demo of my process painting with the supplies!
